Flapjacks
Golden syrup oat flapjacks with butter and light brown sugar, baked until golden at the edges and chewy in the middle. Makes 8.

Turn the oven to 180 °C (160 °C fan).

Line a 20 cm square baking tin with baking paper.


Put the butter in the saucepan.
Butter · 100 g
Add the golden syrup.
Golden syrup · 50 g
Add the sugar.
Soft light brown sugar · 50 g
Stir over a low heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves, then take it off the heat.


Tip in the oats.
Rolled oats · 200 g
Add a pinch of salt and stir until every oat is coated.
Salt · 1 pinch

Tip it into the tin and press it down firmly and evenly with the spatula.


Using oven gloves, put the baking tin in the oven.



Bake for about 20 minutes, until deep golden at the edges and golden in the middle.

Using oven gloves, take the baking tin out.



While still warm, score into 8 pieces, pressing the knife straight down but leaving them in the tin.


Leave to cool completely in the tin, about an hour, so they firm up.

Flapjacks
Golden syrup oat flapjacks with butter and light brown sugar, baked until golden at the edges and chewy in the middle. Makes 8.
What you’ll doYou will heat the oven and line a tin, then melt butter, golden syrup and sugar together over low heat. Stir in oats and salt until evenly coated, press the mixture firmly into the tin, and bake until the edges are deep golden brown. While still warm, cut the flapjack into eight pieces with firm downward strokes of the knife, then leave it to cool completely in the tin before turning out.
