Rinse the soybean sprouts under cold running water in a colander.

Peel the garlic cloves and discard the skins.

Mince the peeled garlic cloves finely.


Transfer the minced garlic to a small bowl and set aside.

Trim the root ends and any tired outer layers from the spring onions, discarding the trimmings.

Slice the peeled spring onions into thin rounds.


Transfer the sliced spring onions to a small bowl and set aside.

Pour the water into a saucepan.

Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.

Add the salt to the boiling water and stir briefly to dissolve.

Boil the soybean sprouts for 5 minutes until just tender but still slightly crisp.

Drain the soybean sprouts through a colander, discarding the cooking water.

Rinse the drained soybean sprouts under cold running water to stop the cooking and cool them quickly.

Squeeze the cooled soybean sprouts firmly by hand to remove as much excess water as possible.

Transfer the dried soybean sprouts to a mixing bowl.

Add the sesame oil to the soybean sprouts.

Add the sliced spring onions to the seasoned soybean sprouts.

Toss everything together gently until the spring onions are evenly distributed through the sprouts.


Add the sesame seeds to a small frying pan.

Korean seasoned soybean sprouts finished with toasted sesame seeds, garlic, and sesame oil.
What you’ll doYou will rinse and prep the garlic and spring onions, then blanch the soybean sprouts for 5 minutes in salted water. After cooling and squeezing them dry, you will toss them with sesame oil, soy sauce, salt, garlic and gochugaru. Finally you will toast the sesame seeds and scatter them over before serving.
